Car Bumper Repair

Silver car with a dent on the bumper

Most drivers experience a fender bender, scrape, or minor accident at some point. The average person gets into anywhere from three to four accidents in their lifetime. Unfortunately, fender-benders and minor accidents are part of car ownership around Milford.

Whether a friend backed into your new vehicle in your own driveway or the wind blew a Smyrna grocery store shopping cart into the rear of your cargo area, that bumper damage was beyond your control. If you’re wondering how to get a dent out of a car bumper or how to remove scratches from a car bumper, we can help with our guide.

Car Bumper Repair Costs & Details

Always consult our service center for car bumper repair or body repair if the damage to your car bumper seems more extensive than you can fix in a day. Car bumper repair costs may range from $50 for a few materials to do it yourself or up to $1,500 if the damage affects lights, sensors, or cameras on newer models.

However, modern vehicles like a new Buick or a new GMC are better equipped to avoid accidents. You might be able to avoid extensive damage with modern onboard systems. A bumper replacement may be in order if the damage is too much.

If you have a small dent, crack, or paint scratch, we’ll show you how to repair these defects on your own.

How to Get a Dent Out of a Car Bumper

To fix car bumper dents, you’ll need these tools to start:

  • Heat gun or hair dryer
  • Pry bar
  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

Follow these steps to complete car bumper repair on your own:

  1. Safely elevate your car with the jack or jack stands.
  2. Remove the splash guard if necessary.
  3. Warm the affected area with your heat gun
  4. When warmed sufficiently, use the prybar to apply pressure to the dent from the inside out.
  5. Apply pressure to the deepest part of the dent first.
  6. Work through its shape evenly until the dent is less apparent or completely gone.

How to Remove Scratches From a Car Bumper

If you just barely tapped the vehicle in front of you and only have a little missing paint to show for it, no worries. With a buffing compound, a drill, and a touch-up pen, you’ll be driving around Middletown without a problem.

Follow these steps to fix a car bumper when you just have paint scratches.

  1. Clean the area well.
  2. Run your fingernail over the scratch to determine how deep the scratch is.
  3. Buff it with your drill attachment accordingly.
  4. If necessary, add a layer of clear coat.
  5. Let that dry, and paint with your touch-up pen.
  6. Allow that to dry fully before hitting the road.

How to Fix Cracks in the Fiberglass

If you want to fix a crack in your car body’s fiberglass, you may want to bring your vehicle to our repair shop. Repairing fiberglass takes much more extensive and technical repairs, and the process needs more materials.

If you’re ready to fix fiberglass after reading tutorials, or you have knowledge of fiberglass repair, this could be a straightforward fix. Minimally, you’ll need to order a fiberglass repair kit. Follow the safety instructions carefully as you repair fiberglass because the chemicals involved require certain safety precautions.
